Park Superintendent

We’re hiring for a full-time position responsible for the oversight and maintenance of Alberta O. Jones Park grounds and equipment!


The Superintendent will also coordinate the planning, scheduling, and delivery of programs designed by and for the community—from exercise classes to movie nights. Free housing in a home within the park is included in this role’s benefits package. 

Job Description

The Park Superintendent is responsible for providing the best possible service to the patrons of Alberta O. Jones Park and must possess knowledge and skills to effectively communicate with people from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, both in person and over the phone.

Key Responsibilities:

The Park Superintendent has primary oversight of the park grounds, equipment, and programming.  Serves as a "goodwill ambassador" for Alberta O. Jones Park by providing friendly, helpful customer service to the public and ensuring coordination of culturally relevant programming designed for and by the community.

  • Plans, schedules, and oversees programming with residents, community partners, and other nonprofit organizations.

    • Plans and organizes park events and functions, from festivals to meetings.

    • Plans, develops, and markets programs and/or special events to promote a healthy lifestyle for community residents.

    • Participates in the recruitment and engagement of residents on the Park Community Council and supports Alliance leadership in orchestrating effective Council meetings.

    • Evaluates programs and events for future improvements and/or modifications.

    • Provides set up, break down, and support as needed for Alberta O. Jones Park events.

    • Monitors field/shelter rentals and ensures proper permits have been issued.

    • Monitors park for proper usage of equipment and amenities.


  • Manages/oversees the park, including grounds and facility maintenance.

    • Patrols assigned area and completes checks of buildings/park/playground to ensure a safe and clean environment. Is alert for conditions that might endanger or hinder the safety, health, or convenience of the public within the patrol area.

    • Polices park grounds, parking lots, paths and play surfaces daily and performs routine tasks necessary to maintain a clean, safe outdoor environment including but not limited to picking up litter and broken glass, checking playground for debris, and checking for uneven walking surfaces.

    • Oversees contractor performance of grounds maintenance (mowing, landscape and equipment maintenance) and cleaning/litter pickup/waste disposal. 

    • Ensures cleanliness of park grounds and restrooms (emptying trash, cleaning toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors) and replenishes supplies, as needed, in concert with contracted cleaning staff.  

    • Performs basic horticultural duties including, but not limited to, watering flowers and grass, and pulling weeds in flower beds.

    • Performs inspections and either makes minor repairs or reports problems to Alliance leadership.


  • Strong people skills and emotional intelligence.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Good knowledge of the standard practices of cleaning and custodial work.

  • Basic knowledge of general building maintenance and repair.

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Three years of park or facilities management, landscaping, horticulture, or grounds maintenance experience, or commensurate experience, preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping, and climbing.

  • Spends prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements.

  • Lifts and carries items weighing up to 70 pounds.

  • Must work a varied schedule.

  • Self-starter: possesses the ability to act and operate efficiently and independently to accomplish objectives.
